Throughout the 20th Century Tamdhu Distillery was part of The Highland Distilleries Company and supplied malt to various blended whiskies including Cutty Sark, Famous Grouse and J&B, just to mention a few. In the 1970s Tamdhu underwent major expansion, the number of stills was increased to 6 and consequently distilling capacity to 4 million liters of spirit per annum. The launch of 8 years old single malt followed in 1976. The 18 years old expression was introduced in 2005, it was a short-lived project, the distillery was mothballed four years later and subsequently sold to Ian Macleod Distilleries in 2011.
