Tomatin, once the biggest malt distillery in Scotland, went bankrupt in 1985 and subsequently was acquired by two Japanese companies, Takara Shuzo and Okura & Co. In the recent decade the owners put a lot of effort to build the brand and their efforts paid off – the sales increased four-fold to 460 000 bottles and number of limited releases made an important addition to the range. Tomatin 1988 Vintage was introduced in the spring of 2014; two additional releases followed in 2015 and 2016. The whisky was aged for 25 years in ex-bourbon and ex-port casks. Here we have Batch # 1 released in 2014. Only 2500 bottles were produced.
