George Dickel Distillery located in Tullahoma, Tennessee has been producing Tennessee Whisky since 1881. Currently it is owned by Diageo, who added rye whisky to the brand in 2012. George Dickel Rye has not been distilled in Tullahoma; the whisky is sourced from MGP Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Indiana and after being matured for five years it is shipped to Diageo owned facility in Plainfield, Illinois where it undergoes charcoal mellowing process. Next and final step is bottling done in Norwalk, Connecticut. George Dickel’s Rye is distilled from mash of 95% rye and 5% malted barley and remains the only charcoal mellowed rye whisky on the market.
