Springbank Distillery was founded in 1828, the fourteenth of the 34 known distilleries to be built in Campbeltown, once proclaimed the whisky capital of the world. Springbank is arguably the most unique among Scottish distilleries, the only distillery in Scotland built in the first half of the 19th Century, which still remains in hands of the founding family and the only one, whose total malt requirements are met by its own floor maltings. Springbank produces three completely different single malts – traditional Springbank, peated Longrow and delicate, triple-distilled Hazelburn – with the entire production process being carried out on site. Springbank whisky has always been sought after by connoisseurs and collectors; here we got a true gem, part of the Private Bottling range. The whisky distilled on July 2, 1974 spent 28 years in cask no. 1157 and was bottled on February 25, 2003 at 46% abv. Only 630 bottles were produced. This outstanding single cask expression, rich in tropical fruits, with delicate smoky and briny notes is a rare example of Campbeltown malt from the 1970s.
