Springbank Distillery was founded in 1828, the fourteenth of the 34 known distilleries to be built in Campbeltown, once proclaimed the whisky capital of the world. Springbank is arguably the most unique among Scottish distilleries, the only distillery in Scotland built in the first half of the 19th Century, which still remains in hands of the founding family and the only one, whose total malt requirements are met by its own floor maltings. Springbank produces three completely different single malts – traditional Springbank, peated Longrow and delicate, triple-distilled Hazelburn – with the entire production process being carried out on site. Springbank whisky has always been sought after by connoisseurs and collectors; here we got a true gem, part of the Private Bottling range. The whisky distilled on March 30, 1968 spent 35 years in cask no. 484 and was bottled at natural strength of 49.1% abv on November 25, 2003. Only 213 bottles were produced. This outstanding single cask expression, fruity and briny, with delicate smoky notes is an example of old-school Campbeltown whisky.
