A limited release of Ardbeg (6600 bottles) introduced on 2014 Ardbeg Day (May 31st). The word “auriverdes” is derived from Portuguese “auri” and “verde” which mean “gold” and “green” respectively.
“Auriverdes” is a nickname of the Brazilian national football team (Brazil hosted The World Cup in 2014); it may also stand for a “Golden Liquid in a Green Bottle”. The second fill ex-bourbon casks selected for this edition were fitted with specially toasted heads (no further information about “special toasting” was provided). However the whisky carries no age statement we can take an educated guess that it is 10-11 years old. Bottled at natural strength (49.9% abv) and unchill-filtered.
Nose: clean and robust, peaty, smoked bacon, sandy beach washed with the ocean wave, caramel, vanilla and freshly ground coffee beans.
Palate: sweet and peaty, medicinal, vanilla, caramel, smoked bacon, prunes, dark chocolate with sea salt and hint of citrus.
Finish: long and warming, peat smoke, toasted oak and dark chocolate.
