Glenmorangie Distillery is an unquestionable pioneer in the process of finishing their whisky in various types of wood.
As early as 1994 Port Wood Finish was included into distillery core range only to be followed by Sherry, Madeira and Burgundy finishes. But the historic event took place in 1987 with the release of Glenmorangie 1963 Vintage. We believe it was the first release from the distillery that mentions sherry finish on the label – “the Glenmorangie Vintage has been oak wood matured for 22 years and uniquely ‘finished’ in Spanish Oloroso sherry casks for one further year”. Over 30 years after release Glenmorangie 1963 Vintage remains one of the most sought after expressions from the distillery.
