A malt whisky distilled at Yamazaki distillery, founded in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii. The plant is located amongst most exceptional scenery in Shimamoto, not far from Kyoto. Yamazaki is a pioneer of Japanese malt whisky. When creating his whisky, Torii was inspired by the traditional Scottish art of distillation. The Puncheon expression was launched in 2011. It was composed from spirits that matured in white American oak puncheon type casks. Because of their large (480 litres) capacity, the maturation takes longer in them. The whisky has a smooth and simple character, suitable for beginners in the world of the amber tipple from Japan.
Nose: Fresh and fruity, with American oak notes, pears, peaches, vanilla, pineapple, flowers, honey, coconut and caramel.
Palate: Fruity and light, with vanilla, malted barley, plums, peaches, oranges, pears, lime, coconut, flowers and oak.
Finish: Medium length and slightly sweet, with ginger, cloves and fruits.
