French Company Picard Vins & Spiritueux acquired Tullibardine Distillery in 2011. The French inherited significant inventory but apparently some of the casks contained whisky of mediocre quality, not suitable to be bottled as single malt. The Picard people re-racked some and focused on brand development. The new revamped range was introduced in 2013. It contained six expressions including three core finishes: 500 Sherry, 225 Sauternes and 228 Burgundy. The numbers relate to the size in liters of the casks that the whisky has been matured in for the final twelve months. Tullibardine 225 Sauternes Finish was aged in first fill bourbon barrels and finished in 225-liter Château Suduiraut Sauternes casks.
