Springbank CV was introduced in the late 1990s. The idea was to embrace a lifetime of Springbanks by vatting whiskies from 8 to 30 years old and creating an “ultimate” Springbank. The experiment was short-lived and the initial bottling is now sought after by collectors. In 2010 however, the distillery returned to the CV idea with “Campbeltown CV pack” containing three 20-cl bottles of Springbank, Longrow and Hazelburn. This time Springbank CV was a vatting of whiskies aged 7, 10 and 14 years in various casks (bourbon, sherry and port). CV stands for curriculum vitae and the whisky is an excellent introduction to Campbeltown malts.
Nose: grassy and mineral, with hints of sulphur, lemon peel, linseed oil, toasted nuts, caramel, notes of dried fruit and a whiff of sea breeze.
Palate: sweeter than nose suggests, vanilla, toffee, candied lemon peel, apples, oranges, salted caramel, dash of pepper and fading hints of smoke.
Finish: fairly long, bitter oranges, white pepper and touch of sulphur.
