Mackmyra, the first Swedish whisky distillery was founded in 1999 by eight graduates of Royal Institute of Technology.
The company produces two types of single malts employing two recipes; one is called Elegant, the other Smoke. All ingredients except from the yeast are sourced within 75-mile radius from the distillery and maturation takes place in the abandoned mine, up to 50 meters below ground level. Mackmyra Special 06 Sommräng (Swedish for Summer Meadow) was distilled from Elegant recipe mash, aged in ex-bourbon, ex-sherry and virgin Swedish oak casks (capacity from 30 to 200 liters) for about seven years. The whisky was released in 2011 with an outrun of 12,000 bottles.
