Hellyers Road Distillery sits on the outskirts of Burnie, in northern Tasmania. The distillery was founded in 1999 by Betta Milk, the second largest milk processing company in Tasmania. The company is owned by local dairy farmers and descendants of the farmers who founded the milk cooperative in 1956. Hellyers Road Distillery can produce 100 000 liters of spirit per annum, what makes it the largest Tasmanian Distillery. The brand was introduced in 2006 and is currently available in over 20 countries. The 12 years old expression was launched in 2014, it comprises whisky distilled exclusively from locally grown barley and aged in white American oak barrels.
Nose: smooth, vanilla, toffee, buttered toast, cashews, oranges, apples, gooseberries, grapes and hints of toasted oak.
Palate: sweet, slightly nutty, vanilla cream, caramel, baked apples, pears, touch of coconut flakes, raisins and delicate herbal notes.
Finish: medium long and pretty sweet, vanilla, caramel, hints of pepper and herbs.
