Penderyn, the only Welsh whisky distillery, was founded in 2000. The distillery is equipped with unique copper still designed by Dr. David Faraday, descendent of the Victorian scientist, Michael Faraday. The still has added purifier and rectification column and produces spirit of extraordinary strength of 92% abv. Penderyn Peated is rather unusual whisky, distilled from unpeated malt it has been matured in part in casks sourced from one of the Islay distilleries. In 2008 it scored silver medal at International Wine & Spirits Competition for ‘Silver Best in Class’. Penderyn Peated is part of the core range, with 5000 bottles being released each year.
Nose: fresh, malted barley, vanilla, apples, peaches, salted nuts, candlewax and peat in the background.
Palate: young, buttered toast, baked apples, butterscotch, nougat, pepper and distant notes of peat smoke.
Finish: not too long, woody and peaty with hints of aniseed and pepper.
