Talisker 10 years old represented islands (excluding the Isle of Islay) in the original Classic Malts series launched in 1988. Ten years later Classic Malts were supplemented with Distillers Edition range containing the same malts but finished in various types of wood, in case of Talisker they were Amoroso sherry casks. (Amoroso is a medium-dry sherry of Spain made of Palomino and Pedro Ximénez variety, similar in character to Oloroso). Talisker 2001 Vintage was part of the 2012 Distillers Edition series.
Nose: nicely balanced, fruity, orange peel, raisins, figs, salted almonds, pepper, caramel, touch of licorice, soy sauce, tobacco leaves and delicate smoky notes.
Palate: elegant, fruity and peppery, oranges, grapefruits, raisins, touch of aniseed, seaweed salad and very mild smokiness.
Finish: long, peaty and peppery, slightly briny, with notes of bitter oranges, grapefruits and delicate smoke in the background.
