Talisker Distillery was funded in 1830 by Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill. It is located in the Isle of Skye, the largest and most northerly major island in the Inner Hebrides.
Currently the distillery is owned by Diageo and equipped with five stills produces 2.7 million liters of spirit per annum. Talisker 57º North was introduced in 2008, the second no age statement whisky from the distillery. Its name is derived from the point of latitude, on which the distillery is situated. The whisky was aged exclusively in American oak refill barrels and is bottled at hefty 57% abv. In 2012 Talisker 57º North picked up the top prize in its category (Best Island Malt No Age Statement) at the World Whisky Awards.
