Springbank, founded in 1828 on site of an illicit still, is arguably the most unique Scottish distillery. It has been owned by the Mitchell family since 1837, what makes it the longest family owned distillery in Scotland. In the 21st Century the entire production process, from malting to bottling, is completed on site (no other distillery can make such claim). In 2003 the distillery celebrated its 175th Anniversary and released a special commemorative bottling. The whisky was aged is combination of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks for a minimum of 12 years and bottled at 46% abv without chill-filtration. Only 12000 bottles were produced.
Nose: fruity, apples, oranges, peaches, vanilla, honey, licorice, oak, walnuts, touch of cinnamon and fading hints of smoke.
Palate: sweet and spicy, baked apples, oranges, vanilla, caramel, cinnamon, white pepper, ginger, touches of aniseed and eucalyptus and a pinch of salt.
Finish: fairly long, slightly briny, vanilla, honey, pepper, hints of peat and oak.
