Tomatin, once the biggest malt distillery in Scotland, went bankrupt in 1985 and subsequently was acquired by two Japanese companies, Takara Shuzo and Okura & Co. In the recent decade the owners put a lot of effort to build the brand and their efforts paid off – the sales increased four-fold to 460 000 bottles and number of limited releases made an important addition to the range. Tomatin 25 years old, the first super premium official expression, was launched in 2005. It comprises whisky aged in white American oak casks and bottled at 43% abv.
