Lord of the Isles would be a jewel in every whisky collection; in fact it is one of the mostly sought after Ardbegs. Some connoisseurs consider the Lord as an ultimate bottling of Ardbeg, one to spend the rest of life with on a desert island.
Lord of the Isles was part of the distillery range from 2001 to 2007; it comprised whiskies distilled in 1976 and 1977 (the latest releases were in fact 30 years old).“The lords of the Isles” ruled the Scottish western isles from the 12th to the 15th Century. Somerled, the Celtic Norse warlord mentioned on the label, is a founder of the lordship dynasty through his sons Dugall, Ranald and Angus and thus the progenitor of the clans of MacDonald and MacDougall. John MacDougall founded Ardbeg Distillery in 1815.
