Tomatin Distillery was founded in 1897. It was a small outfit, equipped with a single pair of stills. From the late 1950s to mid 1970s Tomatin expanded to 23 stills and became the largest malt distillery in Scotland, in 1985 went bankrupt. Currently Tomatin is a mid-size operation owned by the Japanese Company Takara Shuzo. Tomatin 18 years old was launched in 2006 and comprised whisky aged in ex-bourbon casks and finished in ex-sherry cask. The bottle presented here was filled between 2009 and 2015. In 2014 Tomatin 18 years old scored gold medal at the International Wine & Spirits competition.
Nose: rich with distinctive sherry notes, apples, raisins, cinnamon, milk chocolate, vanilla, maple syrup, dried herbs and touch of leather.
Palate: lots of honey and chocolate, raspberries, raisins, prunes, bananas, orange peel, roasted nuts, honey, hints of ginger and cinnamon and touch of oak.
Finish: long and warming, fruity and spicy with hints of mint and oak.
