Tobermory is a small distillery located on the Isle of Mull with distilling capacity of 1 million liters of spirit per annum. It is owned by Burn Stewart Distillers, since 2013 part of Distell Group Ltd. Tobermory is a main component of two popular blends: Black Bottle and Scottish Leader thus single malt releases are very limited. The 15 years old expression was introduced in July 2008 and according to the distillery contains whisky, which underwent dual-location maturation process – after being aged on the mainland at Deanston Distillery in ex-bourbon barrels it was reracked into Gonzales Byass Oloroso sherry casks and sent back to Mull for the final year of maturation.
Nose: strong sherry statement, dried figs and dates, raisins, toffee, caramel, touch of marzipan, hazelnuts, hints of leather and licorice.
Palate: smooth with distinctive sherry characteristics, rich fruitcake, chocolate-coated hazelnuts, candied orange peel, toffee, traces of cinnamon and pepper and subtle oaky notes.
Finish: long, nutty and pretty spicy, allspice, cinnamon, dried fruits and hints of coffee.
