Oban, small and colorful Victorian town, is the capital of western Highlands. The namesake distillery sits in the middle of town, what makes a bit strange location for such facility.
Oban Distillery was founded in 1794 by the Stevenson family and predates its hometown by several years. In the late 18th Century Oban was nothing more than a fishing village. The distillery is equipped with a single pair of stills and can produce about 850 000 liters of spirit per annum and since it is surrounded by buildings there is no chance for expansion. Oban14 years old, debuted in 1988 as a part of the original Classic Malts series. The whisky was aged predominantly in ex-bourbon casks with a little addition of ex-sherry casks.
