In the early 1990s, after great success of Classic Malts range, United Distillers (predecessor of Diageo) started promoting single malts from lesser-known distilleries, contributors to the company vast blended whisky portfolio (Linkwood is a main component of White Horse and Johnnie Walker brands.)
The range is known as Flora & Fauna series. The whisky labels depict representative of flora and fauna popular on the distillery site, in case of Linkwood it is a mute swan. Linkwood 12 years old was part of the original Flora & Fauna release, sadly, several years ago the range was discontinued.
