Glenfarclas translates from Gaelic to “Valley of the green grass”. The distillery was built in 1836 on Rechlerich Farm, close to the small town of Ballindalloch, and since 1865 has been owned by the Grant family.
Glenfarclas made its name for very strict wood policy and sherry matured single malt. The owners proudly claim not aging their spirit in first fill bourbon barrels. The 21 years old expression has been part of the distillery range for years, it contains whisky aged primarily in ex-Oloroso sherry casks.
Nose: lighter on sherry than younger versions, hazelnuts, toffee, vanilla, peppermint, juniper berries, coconut flakes, apples and a whiff of smoke.
Palate: pretty complex, nutty, spicy with delicate maltiness, honey, cinnamon, raisins, candied orange peel, traces of oak and peat smoke.
Finish: long, nutty and malty with delicate oaky and peaty notes.
