In 2010 Bunnahabhain people made two remarkable changes to their core range – they quit chill-filtration and increased alcohol content to 46.3% abv.
Almost immediately, the 25 years old expression scored double gold medal at San Francisco Wine and Spirit Competition, in fact between 2011 and 2014 it was awarded with three gold medals. The whisky is a vatting of first fill and refill ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. The presentation includes a smoked-oak glass bottle with parchment label and handsome wooden box.
Nose: rich and complex, dried fruits, caramel, cacao, raisins, polished leather, sherried oak and a whiff of smoke.
Palate: smooth and beautifully balanced, dark chocolate, vanilla, roasted almonds, delicate creamy maltiness, oak and sweet spice.
Finish: long, soft and dry, nutty, cloves, candied orange peel and sherried oak.
