The Links series debuted in 2003 and was part of the distillery range for several years.
The bottlings featured labels and tins of famous golf courses (in Scotland golf is almost as popular as whisky) painted by Graham W. Baxter. The 8th “Link” was named after Torrey Pines Golf Course located on the coastal bluffs of the Torrey Pines Mesa in La Jolla, California. The whisky was aged for 15 years in ex-bourbon casks and finished in ex-Bordeaux wine barrels sourced from the famous Château Latour estate. Torrey Pines was released in 2008 with an outrun of 18 000 bottles.
Nose: firm, red fruit, rose petals, grapes, citrus, vanilla and hints of leather and cinnamon.
Palate: complex and nicely balanced, winey, floral, red berries, candied orange peel, sweet cereals, traces of sweet spice and oak.
Finish: pretty long, fruity, vanilla sweetness combats oaky dryness.
