Glenmorangie plc acquired Ardbeg Distillery in 1997. The site was in a sorry state and neglected buildings were begging for restoration.
Production resumed on the following year, after major renovation work. In 2004 Ardbeg Very Young was launch as a forerunner of four releases containing whiskies distilled under new ownership. The idea was to show evolution of whisky in the first 10 years of aging. Ardbeg Renaissance (nick named “We’ve arrived!”) is the final chapter of the project initiated with Very Young. It is the first 10 years old Ardbeg composed entirely of spirit distilled by new proprietors, bottled unchill-filtered and at cask strength (55.9% abv).
