The Famous Grouse is one of the most popular Scotch whiskies. It is No. 1 blended whisky in Scotland, No. 2 in Great Britain and No. 7 Scotch in the world.
The key components of the blend include Macallan, Highland Park, Glenturret, Glenrothes and Tamdhu. The brand has been owned by the Edrington Group since 1999 and since takeover the range has significantly grown. Famous Grouse Islay Cask Finish was introduced in 2001 and discontinued few years later replaced with the Black Grouse. It is a standard Famous Grouse blend finished for three months in casks, which previously held Islay malts, such as Caol Ila, Laphroaig and Bowmore.
Nose: mildly smoky, vanilla, caramel, marzipan, milk chocolate, cherries, orange peel, hints of oak and distant whiff of sea breeze.
Palate: soft with delicate peaty notes, sweet cereals, toffee, vanilla, cherries, Damson plums, cinnamon, pepper and a pinch of salt.
Finish: medium long, with notes of caramel, pepper, cocoa powder and distant whiff of smoke.
