Penderyn single malt was introduced in 2004 and within the next ten years its global sales reached 200 000 bottles. In 2013/2014 the distillery underwent £1m expansion, which increased its production capacity from 90 000 to 300 000 liters of spirit per annum. Penderyn Sherrywood, a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-Oloroso sherry casks, was added to the core range in 2008. However bottled without age statement in October 2008 Ed Minning of Penderyn stated that the average age of whisky was 43/4 to 51/2 years.
Nose: pretty sweet and smooth, honey, milk chocolate, maple syrup, caramel, apples, sponge cake, hints of oak and eucalyptus drops.
Palate: fruity with discreet sherry notes, oranges, bananas, apples, vanilla, honey, chocolate-coated raisins, cinnamon and oak.
Finish: medium long, toffee, milk chocolate, dash of pepper and oak.
