Beginning in 1996 and continuing for the next ten years, the Jack Daniel’s Distillery released its Gold Medal series of commemorative bottles. Comprised of seven unique designs, each bottle in the series celebrates a different gold medal won by the distillery.
Out of seven gold medals only one was won in the US (1904 St. Louis) while the remaining six were scored in Europe: three in Belgium (1905 Liège, 1913 Ghent and 1954 Brussels), two in the UK (1914 and 1915 London) and one in the Netherlands (1981 Amsterdam).
Out of all seven gold medals Jack Daniel’s scored over time the sixth one has in our opinion the highest value. The year is 1954, prohibition is long forgotten, the war is over and world enjoys prosperity. The distillery is getting ready for the whiskey competition held in Brussels and prepares a special batch. But Herb Fanning, the person responsible for the event on the distillery end, mistakenly sends few bottles of standard whiskey instead. Surprisingly, the standard bottling wins the Star of Excellence award, the sixth gold medal. A commemorative bottle marking this tremendous success was released in 2005.
