Year 1904 marks was a turning point for Jack Daniel’s distillery – it scored a gold medal at the St. Louis World’s Fair. It was a huge event, seven months long, with exhibits from 62 countries and 42 of then 45 states. The World’s Fair was dedicated to “Innovations and Inventions” and more than few groundbreaking products were on display such as cotton candy, peanut butter or waffle cones, not to mention whiskey. The latter was judged by a panel of international experts who took their job very seriously with awarding the most exceptional expressions. For the first time Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey was awarded with Gold and consequently gained wider recognition.
Soon after returning to Lynchburg Jack created a special decanter to give as a gift to people who contributed to success of his whiskey. In 1971 the distillery released a replica, very similar to the original, just slightly taller and without gold bands in the glass. In 2004 another replica was launched to celebrate the medal 100th Anniversary. For the US market Jack Daniel’s released 1.75-liter decanters, while for Europe 1.5 liter.
