Elijah Craig Bourbon was launched by Heaven Hill Distillery in 1986, it was a small batch bourbon aged for 12 years.
The brand is named after reverend Elijah Craig, arguably the creator of bourbon, as we know it (he is credited as the first distiller to age his whiskey in charred oak barrels). Elijah Craig 18 years old Single Barrel debuted in 1994 and soon gained nearly cult status. It was withdrawn from the market in 2012 due to inventory shortages but returned in full glory three years later. Only about 15,000 bottles are being released annually. Elijah Craig’s bourbon is distilled from mash of 75% corn, 13% rye and 12% malted barley.
