Glenmorangie Distillery is unquestionable leader in finishing maturation.
The first wood finished expression was released in 1987 – now legendary 1963 Vintage, finished in ex-Oloroso sherry butts. Since the late 1990s four finishes were listed in the distillery core range and they were supplemented basically every year with limited editions. Glenmorangie 1981 presented here is the predecessor to Glenmorangie Nectar D’Òr (introduced 2007). The whisky spent 21 years in wood, the last two of which in premier cru Sauternes casks sourced from legendary Chateau D’Yquem, and was bottled in 2002 with an outrun of 4000 bottles.
