Taketsuru Pure Malt was introduced by Nikka Distilling Company in November 2000.
The brand’s forerunner was Taketsuru 12 years old followed by 17 and 21 years old launched in March 2001, both multiple winners of in Blended Malt Whisky Category at World Whisky Awards. The whisky, a vatting of single malts from two Nikka distilleries, Yoichi and Miyagikyo, is named after Masataka Taketsuru, the company founder and one of the two pioneers of Japanese whisky. In 2015, due to inventory shortages, the company was forced to phase out all age statement Taketsuru expressions leaving just NAS version (presented here) in the Nikka core range.
Nose: sweet and fruity, plums, strawberry/rhubarb marmalade, vanilla, caramel, milk chocolate, buttered croissants and hints of oak.
Palate: light and sweet, sugared nuts, candied orange peel, pears, vanilla, cappuccino, hints of cinnamon and touch of toasted oak.
Finish: medium long, with notes of ripe fruit, vanilla, caramel, cocoa, white pepper and subtle oaky dryness.
