In the late June 2019 BenRiach Distillery revealed details of their newest batch of single cask selection.
Rachel Barrie, the company master blender, selected total of 24 casks, 12 of which earmarked for Europe and another 12 for Asia Pacific, Australia, New Zealand and Canada. The European selection ranged from 7 to 33 years old and included rum, bourbon, port, Rioja, Marsala and virgin oak casks. The youngest expression selected for the European customers was distilled on March 12, 2012 from peated malt and aged for seven years in virgin oak barrel # 7825. Bottled at natural strength of 61.2% abv and without chill-filtration with an outrun of 286 bottles.
Producer’s tasting note:
Nose: orange, grape and cherry candy in salted caramel with hazelnut nougat and ice cream; birch and cherry tree bark linger in the background.
Palate: orange candy, poached pear and custard meld with rhubarb and birch smoke leaving a lingering smoked fruit finish.
