In the late June 2019 BenRiach Distillery revealed details of their newest batch of single cask selection.
Rachel Barrie, the company master blender, selected total of 24 casks, 12 of which earmarked for Europe and another 12 for Asia Pacific, Australia, New Zealand and Canada. The European selection ranged from 7 to 33 years old and included rum, bourbon, port, Rioja, Marsala and virgin oak casks. BenRiach Peated presented here, part of the European selection, was distilled on March 28, 2008 and aged in ex-bourbon barrel # 2506 for 11 years. Bottled at natural strength of 59.4% abv and without chill-filtration with an outrun of only 93 bottles.
Producer’s tasting note:
Nose: smoked mint and black currant from a mountain campfire with bramley apple sauce.
Palate: grilled red apple smothered in olive oil with smoked angelica and star anise, progressing to charred apple and maple finish.
