In 2016 Kavalan Distillery celebrated not only its 10th Anniversary but also finishing an expansion, which made it one of the ten largest malt whisky distilleries in the world.
Kavalan is currently equipped with ten pairs of stills and can produce close to 10 million liters of spirit per annum. Kavalan Distillery Select was launched in the fall of 2018 and is the first offering from the distillery to be created for mixing cocktails. Crafted by mater blender Ian Chang, the whisky is matured in “select malt neutral casks” to showcase the characteristics of the Taiwanese climate without too much wood influence. In 2018 Kavalan won “Whisky Magazine” Icon of Whisky Award.
Nose: very fruity, apples, oranges, mango, papaya, dried apricots, buttered croissants, vanilla cream and hint of toffee.
Palate: sweet pastries, vanilla cream, honey, apples, pears, tangerines, mango, hints of white pepper and cinnamon.
Finish: pretty long, full of exotic fruits, notes of vanilla cream and honey and lingering spiciness.
