Kasei translates to ‘Mars’ from the Japanese and the Mars Kasei blended whisky was produced as an exclusive for the French retailer La Maison du Whisky.
(the company does not reveal the blend formula; we only know that the components were aged in various barrels). Shinsu Mars Distillery is located in Miyada, in Nagano Prefecture. It has been owned by the Hombo family, who obtain a license to distill whisky in 1948 (the distillery has been operating in current location since 1985). Shinsu Mars is located in Japanese Alps, in the village of Miyada (Nagano Prefecture), almost 800 meters above sea level, what makes it the highest Japanese distillery.
Nose: fruity and floral, apples, peaches, summer meadow, hay, sweet cereals, hints of vanilla and oak and fading hints of smoke.
Palate: smooth, vanilla, caramel, touch of honey, baked apples, grapes, banana bread, hints of hay and distant whiff of smoke.
Finish: medium long, with notes of caramel, vanilla, citrus and delicate oaky and peaty notes.
