Ardbeg Drum is the annual edition released on June 1, 2019 for International Ardbeg Day.
The whisky started maturation process in white American oak ex-bourbon barrels then was transferred into ex-rum casks from the Americas (the distillery does not reveal where exactly these casks were sourced form) to “coax out tropical tastes”. Rum is considered a Carnival spirit and Ardbeg Drum is intended to evoke the atmosphere of Carnival. In our knowledge, Drum is the first ever expression of Ardbeg to feature ex-rum casks. Comparing to Ardbeg’s core range Drum is by all means unique in showing the “tropical side” of this smoky and powerful Islay single malt.
Nose: peat smoke and tropical fruits, pineapples, bananas, coconut flakes, vanilla, seaweed salad, iodine, grilled seafood, hints of burnt rubber and oak.
Palate: orange marmalade, grilled pineapple, bananas, apricots, salted caramel, milk chocolate, cloves, cinnamon, touch of licorice and lots of peat smoke.
Finish: long, with notes of tropical fruits, cinnamon, pepper, peat smoke and cigar ash.
