In the early 2019 Balblair Distillery replaced its iconic vintages with age statements, however John McDonald, the distillery manager, assured that vintage expressions will be released on limited basis.
The new core range consists of four whiskies – 12, 15, 18 and 25 years old. Balblair 15 years old was initially matured in white American oak ex-bourbon barrels, then finished in first fill Spanish oak ex-sherry butts. The new range comes in new packaging, which retains Balblair’s signature bottle shape featuring new logo inspired by the nearby Struie Hill. Balblair, founded 1790, is one of the oldest working distilleries in Scotland. It is currently owned by Inver House Distillers and equipped with one pair of stills can produce 1.8 million liters of spirit per annum.
