The story of Diplomático started in Venezuela in 1959 with the foundation of the distillery in which all the brand’s rums are manufactured. At that time Licorerías Unidas S.A. (LUSA) owned a distillery and its main shareholder was Seagrams.
In 2002 LUSA was put up for sale. Local investors decided to take the opportunity and make an offer to take it over. In the same year it was made a 100% private property and adopted its current name: Destilerías Unidas S.A. (DUSA). The company is one of the largest rum manufacturers in Venezuela. Diplomático rums are made from sugarcane molasses and sugarcane honeys. Molasses are used to make light rums, and sugarcane honeys – for more complex ones.
Diplomático Ambassador is a rum designed to commemorate the 18th-century distiller Don Juancho Nieto Meléndez, known as El Ambassador. It is a blend of spirits distilled in traditional pot stills only, matured for 12 years in oak casks. On top of that, it spent 2 additional years in Pedro Ximenez sherry casks.
Its nose offers the flavours of fruits (apples, bananas), nuts, cocoa, sherry, flowers and spices. On the palate – a rich and fruity flavours, full of dried apricots, dates, milk chocolate, hazelnuts and tobacco. Some honey and allspice.
