Douglas Laing & Co, one of the most reputable independent bottling companies, used to be run by two Laing brothers, Stuart and Fred. In 2013, after almost 40 years of working together, the brothers parted their ways and split the old company portfolio.
Fred Laing, who retained Douglas Laing name, launched XOP range the following year. XOP (Xtra Old Particular) features the best of the best single malt and single grain whiskies from the family vaults. North Brtish Single Grain 55 years old comes from a single refill hogshead (DL 12398) filled in August 1962. Bottled in March 2018 without chill-filtration and at natural strength of 45.4% abv with an outrun of 250 bottles.
