In the summer of 2018 BenRiach Distillery revealed details of their newest batch of single cask selection.
Comparing to previous batch, batch # 15 offers enormously wide array of casks including sherry Oloroso, Port, Sauternes, Rum, Marsala, Burgundy, Moscatel and Virgin Oak. Rachel Barrie, BenRiach Distillery master blender selected 17 casks, six of which being filled with peated whisky. BenRiach 10 years old Peated presented here comes from ex-Oloroso sherry butt # 3071 filled on February 21, 2007. Bottled at natural strength of 58.3% abv with an outrun of 628 bottles.
Nose: smoked bacon, black pepper, roasted chestnuts, baked apples, raisins, smoked plums, butterscotch, hint of clove and touch of beeswax.
Palate: apple pie sprinkled with cinnamon, toffee, caramel, maple syrup cured ham, toffee, milk chocolate, pepper and dash of nutmeg.
Finish: pretty long, with notes of dried fruit, orange peel, toffee, hints of leather and distant whiff of smoke.
