Matsui Shuzo Distillery was founded in 1910 in Tottori Prefecture on southwestern Honshu. It is part of Matsui Breweries, which makes traditional Japanese sake and shōchu.
The company produces blended whisky and grain whisky under Tottori brand and malt whisky under Kurayoshi nameplate. Little is known about Tottori blend formula, we believe it is a mixture of Japanese and Scottish malt and grain whiskies (what is perfectly legal according to Japanese law) aged in oak barrels for a minimum of three years. The whiskies are blended at Matsui Shuzo Distillery, cut with local mountain spring water and bottled without chill-filtration. (Producer’s tasting note.)
Nose: elegant, balanced with ripe fruit, hint of spices coming from the oak.
Palate: rich, floral and complex with spices, vanilla and chocolate.
Finish: refined finish with a mouthful of oak.
