Sailing Ships was a small collection of Signatory Vintage special bottlings released between 1988 and 1990 commemorating three Ben Line sailing ships .
– Araby Maid (1868) filled with 20 years old Glendronach, Bencleuch (1875) filled with 15 years old Balvenie and Benan (1875) filled with 16 years old Caperdonich. The ships depicted in this series were originally painted by Captain Alexander Cromarty, who joined Wm Thomson & Co managers of Ben Line as a second mate in 1863, spending 35 years at sea with the company. Caperdonich 16 years old was distilled on October 24, 1972 and aged in ex-sherry casks nos. 7130-7132 and bottled in November 1988 with an outrun of 1200 bottles.
Nose: rich in sherry, raisins, prunes, dried figs and dates, honey, brown sugar, dark chocolate, coffee beans, tobacco, hints of leather and oak.
Palate: perfectly balanced, black cherries, prunes, raisins, touch of coconut flakes, honey, caramel, espresso, hazelnuts and sherried oak.
Finish: fairly long with load of dried fruits, prunes, raisins, honey, dark chocolate, bunch of dried herbs and sherried oak.
