High Spirits S.R.L. is an Italian distributor located in Rimini. The company founder, Ferdinando Nadi Fiori, renowned Scotch whisky collector and connoisseur, started as a restaurant owner in Rimini and went into whisky distribution in 1960.
His first company, Intertrade, sourced whisky mainly from Gordon & MacPhail’s warehouses in Elgin. High Spirits emerged in 1999 after the dissolution of Intertrade and is noted for the artistic style of labeling. The number of releases has slowed in recent years and the company early bottlings are sought aftter by collectors. Glenrothes 16 years old is the 12th edition of the Lochs and Castles of Scotland range and comprises whisky distilled in October 1989, aged in cask no. 18144 and bottled at 46% abv in November 2005. The cask produced 332 bottles.
Nose: caramel, toffee, milk chocolate, toasted bread, roasted nuts, licorice, apricots, pears, touch of herbs and faint hint of peat.
Palate: roasted nuts, honey, crème brûlée, buttered toast, milk chocolate, plums, apricots, white pepper, lemon grass and delicate oaky notes.
Finish: fairly long, with notes of toffee, honey, roasted nuts, orchard fruits, licorice and oak.
