Macallan Distillery was founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid but records suggest that whisky was distilled on site two decades earlier.
During the 19th Century Macallan’s ownership changed several times. In 1892 the distillery was acquired by Roderick Kemp (the owner of Talisker) who renamed it Macallan-Glenlivet. The owners started marketing Macallan single malt in 1980, before it was an important component of many leading blends such as Chivas Regal, Bell’s and Famous Grouse. Macallan 10 years old presented here was bottled in the late 1990s, when the distillery claimed using no other wood but sherry casks for whisky aging.
