Douglas Laing, one of the most reputable independent bottling companies, used to be run by two Laing brothers, Stewart and Fred.
In 2013, after almost 40 years of working together, the brothers parted their ways and split the old company portfolio. Old Malt Cask, Douglas Laing signature series, is now part of newly formed Hunter Laing & Co with Stewart at the helm. Ardbeg 10 years old presented here was distilled in October 1993, roughly two years before the distillery was sold to Glenmorangie plc. It is a content of single refill hogshead no. DL 1178. Bottled in May 2004 at 50% abv and without chill-filtration with an outrun of 315 bottles.
Nose: malty, smoky and medicinal, limes, apples, eucalyptus, touch of lavender, cinnamon, pepper, hints of tar and oak.
Palate: smoky and sweet, vanilla, toffee, lemon peel, pepper, ginger, lemon grass, notes of smoked fish and salted nuts.
Finish: pretty long and warming, peat smoke, iodine, salted nuts, hay, oak and hints of tar.
