Nikka Distilling Company, since 2001 part of Asahi Breweries (the largest Japanese beer producer), has been number two producer of alcoholic beverages in Japan for years.
It owns three distilleries in Japan (Yoichi, Miyagikyo [formerly known as Sendai] and Nishinomiya) and one in Scotland (Ben Nevis). Nikka produces single malt, single grain and blended whiskies, with the latter containing some Ben Nevis malt (big part of the Ben Nevis distillate is shipped to Japan for aging and then for blending). Nikka Mild is a very “friendly” blend bottled at fairly low 37% abv and perfect to serve on the rocks during outdoor events on hot summer nights.
