No whisky drinker questions pioneering role of Glenmorangie Distillery in employing various types of wood for whisky aging and finishing.
As early as 1994 Port Wood Finish was added to distillery core range only to be followed by Sherry, Madeira and Burgundy finishes. Those were supplemented with limited editions of exceptional casks or small batches. Here we have one of such rare bottlings, Glenmorangie distilled in 1988 and aged in ex-Madeira cask no. 3078 for 15 years. Bottled at natural strength of 56.6% abv in 2003 with an outrun of 856 bottles. Years later Glenmorangie Madeira Matured will inspire dr. Bill Lumsden to create another expression influenced with Madeira wood – Bacalta.
