Bowmore Darkest has been around for quite some time, in fact it was introduced in 1999. The whisky carried no age statement and the company emphasized extending period (3 years) of finishing maturation in ex-Oloroso sherry casks.
The expression presented here debuted in 2007, when Bowmore revamped and changed the entire range. The whisky spent 12 years in refill casks and additional 3 years in ex-Oloroso sherry casks. In 2014 Bowmore Darkest 15 years old scored double gold medal at the World Spirit Competition.
Nose: smoky with very strong sherry statement, dates, raisins, cherries, dark chocolate and sweet spices.
Palate: very rich, syrupy, chocolate dipped nuts, prunes, raisins, peat and sherried oak.
Finish: long and rich, sherry, spice, oak and lingering peat smoke.
